Adventure Challenge
|
Diving into the
Salomon AC Long Course experience makes for a very special weekend.
This 10 – 14 hour race is designed for adventure racing rookies and
veterans alike as a way to showcase more of the unique flavour that
a FAR racecourse provides. With longer sections of hiking, biking
and paddling, more strategy to formulate, and the twist of racing in
darkness, participating teams are treated to an authentic racing
experience akin to Raid the North.
On
the strength of a rapidly growing Salomon Adventure Challenge
Series, the 10 – 14 hour ‘Long Course’ was added to the 2003 season
schedule. The event met with a huge response as 71 teams of three
signed up to race amongst the Kawartha Highlands landscape out of
Buckhorn, Ontario
(CLICK HERE for race story). This event provided the impetus for
the 2004 edition at Bobcaygeon, Ontario (CLICK
HERE for race results) and the 10 – 14 hour Salomon AC Canadian
Championship at Calabogie Peaks Resort (CLICK
HERE for race results). Now in 2006, we take you to the
Frontenac Region to stage yet another exciting weekend of racing in
a unique part of the province. You don’t want to miss it!
More Racecourse:
A typical Salomon AC Series racecourse measures close to 45 km in
length while a Salomon AC Long Course is around 75 km. The added
paddling and mountain biking distance is not what teams will
remember – it’s the increased length of the trekking portion of the
race. This is where the increase in route strategy comes into play
and what makes this Long Course format so popular.
More
Strategy: A longer race format allows our racecourse designer to
put together a captivating challenge that tests all levels of teams’
ability to strategize and route select. This aspect of the event is
what captures the essence of authentic wilderness racing and where
‘Real Navigation’ comes into play. However, teams will NEVER get
hopelessly lost in a Salomon AC event – trust us!
More Fun!: Racing in the dark, facing more bushwhacking, an
increased focus on teamwork and strategy – these are some of the
elements of the true spirit of adventure racing and part of what
makes our sport so addictive. Too FUN!

You thought the
Salomon Adventure Challenge was a great time the past few years?
Well, heads up - 2006 will be more social, more fun, more party,
plus the same great courses as always!
FAR will always be about Real Wilderness. Real Navigation. Real
Adventure. But we know you also love to party, so this is the year
FAR cranks it up. Bring your cozy post-race clothes, your beer
budget, and make sure you book accommodations for Saturday night.
GREAT PRIZING: The top teams in each category (male, female,
coed) will also win free or discounted entries to the Salomon AC
Canadian Champs in the fall, plus tons of great gear prizes from our
sponsors.
BIGGER, BETTER POST-RACE DINNER AND AWARDS: A hot bountiful
dinner served between 5 and 7 allows for a casual social time before
the night begins. Leading up to the party, we'll have an awards
ceremony to recognize the top teams, share race stories, recognize
volunteers, and award more prizes for all sorts of crazy reasons.
NEW POST-RACE PARTY: A bar! A band! Prizing! Embarrassing
games! The bar will be open, the tunes will be playing, and the
prizing will be flying all night long.
STAY ON SITE: We've got great accommodations and meal
packages, so make a weekend of it. Come Friday night for the
pre-race pasta and social, stay Saturday night to celebrate your
achievement, and explore more of the area on Sunday. A weekend
package for two nights accommodations, dinner Friday night, and
breakfasts Saturday and Sunday are
available now.
REGISTER EARLY: Registration opens Friday, March 31. Team
entry is only $550. NEW this year - every competitor gets a
Salomon Motomesh performance shirt, retail value $45! And you
thought our shirts were great before...
